I qualified in December 1983 from Sheffield University. Initially I worked as an associate at the Lozells Road Dental Practice and acquired the practice in June 1986 becoming the principal dentist working with associates. After four years, I established a one surgery practice in a terraced property at Warwick Road, Tyseley, Birmingham. Working at the two practices part time for a few years, I then went on to attend courses at the Birmingham Dental Hospital for General Dental Practitioners with special interest in fixed straight wire orthodontics. Furthering that with tooth colored bracket and wire systems for aesthetically pleasing appearance during the treatment phase, I attended courses and introduced clear removable orthodontic appliance systems. I provide all types of dental treatments including endodontics (root canal therapy), full and partial dentures, crown and bridgework, veneers to improve the smile line in patients together with tooth whitening and replacing silver fillings for tooth colored fillings. I find this is very satisfying and rewarding. To carry out full mouth rehabilitation Implant dentistry was a field that needed to be introduced especially when there became an increase in awareness amongst patients and it became apparent that lost teeth replaced with a fixed bio-compatible material is an option to offer to patients willing to undergo some surgical treatment for a more tooth like replacement for lost dentition I attended a year of the Warwick university diploma course followed by short implant courses and then a year course run by Dr. Fazeela Khan Osborne at the Harley Street Practice.

Dawn has been in the industry for over 30 years. She qualified as a dental nurse and went on to get radiography and sedation qualifications. Dawn has worked in hospitals in the maxial facial dept and as a NHS and private dental practice implantology nurse. Dawns has also worked with the 10 years younger programme and set up a Managers’ Forum for the Birmingham area. She lectures in infection control, radiography and child protection. Dawn also operates a consultancy agency in quality assurance within dental practices and acts as an advisor to dentists in CQC outcomes, designing decontamination rooms and patient liaison advice. Dawn is also a registered CQC manager for 2 practices. In September 2013 she was instrumental in developing a City & Guilds qualification in Dental Decontamination. This now enables all dental nurses around the country are able to comply fully with HTM 01 05. The course is now offered to Dental nurses and a special designated training centre is currently being developed in the centre of Birmingham. All nurses will be able to gain this qualification and enrol on all of their CPD training.
